Hey Everyone, Happy New Year!
For most, today is the first day of 2026, the 1st is often one that is slept through or spent lounging on the sofa recovering from the holiday *break. *Funny how that works.
Our homes are starting to get back to normal, the last of the baked goods are disappearing, the tree is still up but the lights might not be on anymore and the gyms are filling up with brave souls who went with a traditional new years resolution.
This isn't that kind of email.
Instead of talking about "New Year, New You," let's talk about New Year, New Use of what you already have: your home.
Here are a few questions to kickstart 2026 in a more practical, fun way:

Is this the year you finally turn that spare room into a proper office, guest room, or "close the door and read in peace" zone?

Have you been thinking about a small renovation (new floors, better kitchen, finished basement) that would actually make daily life easier, not just prettier for Instagram?

Do you want to spend less time worrying about money and more time doing things around home that actually matter to you and your family?

Is 2026 the year you stop saying "we should really look at our mortgage" and actually… do it?
BCAssessments are out, and for many, they're seeing their home values drop marginally (1-2%) for the first time in years. When you're used to everything going up, even a small drop is interesting, and for many, that means the deals may still be priced in while we await the spring rush.
Your mortgage and your home are the foundation under a lot of your other goals. If you want more room in the budget for travel, sports for the kids, hobbies, or finally fixing up the yard, getting your mortgage working harder for you is one of the least glamorous, but most powerful, places to start.
If you have even a half-formed idea like "we might move in a year or two," "we might want to renovate," or "our renewal is coming up and we're not sure what to do," this is a great week to talk it through before the year really ramps up.
